Astroinformatics 2026, Cologne

February 23 – 27, 2026

We are pleased to announce that Astroinformatics 2026 will be hosted by Prof. Dr. Stefanie Walch-Gassner at the University of Cologne, with Dr. Kai Polsterer from the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies gGmbH (HITS) acting as co-host. The conference will be held within the focus of the Key Profile Area “Dynamics of the Universe” and DYNAVERSE. It continues the successful conference series dedicated to the latest advances in computational methods for processing and analysing astronomical data.

Data Mining

Discovering patterns, anomalies, or classifications in large astronomical datasets.

Machine Learning & AI

Automating classification (e.g., galaxy types, transient detection), anomaly detection (e.g. rare objects), and regression (e.g. photometric redshift estimation).

Database Management

Handling petabyte-scale datasets from telescopes and surveys.

Visualization

Creating tools to visualize complex, high-dimensional astronomical data.

Simulation Integration

Comparing real observations with cosmological simulations.

e-Science infrastructures

“Astronomy is no longer limited by our ability to observe the universe—it is now limited by our ability to understand the data we collect. Astroinformatics is the bridge that turns data into discovery.”

Debra M. Elmegreen

Past President of the International Astronomical Union (IAU)
